A Sealant is a clear or white material that is applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth where decay occurs most often. The sealant acts as a barrier that keeps out plaque and food and decreases the risk of tooth decay. Sealants are easy to apply and do not require dental anesthetic. In addition sealants are extremely effective in preventing pit and fissure decay.
A mouthguard is a safety device that can help your child protect his/her teeth during sports or recreational activities. The mouthguard cushions blows that would otherwise break teeth, injure the lips and face, and sometimes even fracture the jaw.
Although teeth can become discolored for many reasons, you no longer have to settle for discolored teeth. A simple procedure called tooth whitening can help reduce most discoloration and improve your smile. We can quickly and easily whiten your teeth through procedures that have proven to be safe and effective. Countless patients are already enjoying the benefits of a sparkling smile.
Bonding is a way to correct chips, cracks, or gaps in your teeth. The technique uses tooth-colored materials to correct imperfections, protect exposed tooth roots ,and to restore decayed teeth. This process requires minimal tooth preparation and the application of various colors of composite resins so that the bonded tooth will look natural.
Veneers are custom-made,, durable shells specially prepared to make your teeth look natural. They are affixed directly to the tooth, often without the need for an anesthetic. Veneering is a simple procedure requiring just a few appointments.
There are two types of veneers, ceramic veneers and composite resin veneers.
§ Ceramic veneers are extremely thin shells made of a strong and durable dental ceramic. The dentist removes a small amount of enamel from the front and sides of the tooth. This makes room for the veneer and prevents the restored tooth from feeling or looking bulky or unnatural. Impressions are taken and sent to a dental lab that makes the ceramic veneers to fit your individual teeth. After completion, the final veneers are bonded to teeth.
§ Composite resin veneers generally are done in one appointment. After the tooth is prepared and reshaped, the dentist carefully bonds and sculpts the composite material in a color that matches your other teeth. A special light is used to harden the composite. The veneer is smoothed and polished to look like a natural tooth.
As you may know, the loss of a back tooth can make your mouth sink and cause your face to look older. All of your teeth work together to help you chew, speak, and smile. When teeth are missing, it is difficult to do these things that many take for granted.
It is very important to understand your options and make an educated treatment selection. The three fundamental tooth replacement options we recommend are as follows:
1. IMPLANTS – Implants look and feel like normal teeth. A post is inserted beneath your gum and fused to the bone in your jaw. Then a replacement tooth is mounted on the implant, where it’s most likely to blend in with the way your own teeth look and feel.
2. BRIDGE (FIXED PARTIAL DENTURE) – Bridges are a type of restoration that replaces or spans the space where one or more teeth have been lost. A bridge is bonded or cemented into place and therefore you can not take it in and out like a denture or partial.
3. PARTIAL (REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURE) – Restores the missing teeth with an appliance that you can take out of the mouth for cleaning. Although removable partials are generally less expensive, a bridge may feel more stable and comfortable.
Dental implants are “artificial teeth” that are surgically placed into the jawbone. These “artificial teeth” are stable and secure. Implants look and feel like natural teeth. They can be used to replace a single missing tooth or they can be used to secure a partial or denture.
